Creating a Profession for PLM Practitioners

The Home of Professional PLM

The PLM industry needs a recognised, worldwide professional structure for the people who work within it. The Professional PLM Initiative has been set up to fulfil this need.

The Initiative covers the whole spectrum of what it means to be 'professional' in PLM.  This will be a significant step forward, and will change the way that PLM practitioners work.

The Initiative is inclusive and interactive.  This web site shows the latest developments, and how you can get involved.

The discussions about how PLM could become more like a recognised profession have been publicised on LinkedIn and have received widespread support.

More than 300 PLM practitioners have read and liked the posts since the Initiative was first publicised.

This gives an indication of the latent depth of feeling that PLM should be treated with the same kind of respect given to other business disciplines.

It is instructive to see the range of companies and countries that are represented.

The Professional PLM Initiative needs to build more support if industry leaders are to take note and respond to this.

The Initiative has the potential to affect everyone working in PLM.  It will help PLM practitioners to move forward through a structured, widely-respected career path.

And if PLM professionalism can be established in 33 countries, then global engineering and manufacturing companies can be confident in staffing their PLM projects almost anywhere around the world.

Statement of Intent

In the early days of the Initiative, we needed as many PLM practitioners as possible to make known that they support the prospect of PLM becoming more like a recognised profession.

We therefore produced a one-page Statement of Intent Form that contained a general statement that many people would like to endorse:-

As Forms began to come in, the Correspondence and Associate packages became available, and support can now be shown via direct participation.  However, this Statement of Intent remains at the heart of what the Professional PLM Initiative is trying to achieve.
